What is the weather like in Palm Cove?
Our summer, from October through April, is hot and humid with an average maximum of 32°C and a minimum of 22°C. It is our monsoon season so we would normally expect tropical downpours interspersed with sunshine. The rainforest and waterfalls are at their best at this time of year and sea temperatures rise to around 28°C making it ideal for snorkelling and diving on the Great Barrier Reef.
As you would expect, our cooler months from May through September(when it is cold in southern Australia) are most popular with Australians. Temperatures at that time of year range from 17°C to 25°C.
Will we need to bring towels with us?
We provide bath and hand towels and we have pool/beach towels readily available free of charge. Just ask at reception.
Can we hire a car in Palm Cove?
Yes. Billabong Car Rentals have one of the best selections of vehicles in North Queensland and cars can be booked at the Alassio tour desk.
How can we get to Alassio from the Cairns airport?
We can organise an airport transfer for you. You will be met in the arrival lounge. Please ask at time of booking. It is a 25 minute drive to Palm Cove from Cairns airport. Also, taxis meet all flights and the cost is approximately $50 one way.
Will I need to bring any warm clothes with me when I visit you in January?
Leave those winter woollies at home. Day time temperatures will be around 32°C and night time about 22C.
Are there good restaurants in Palm Cove?
We have some excellent restaurants and bistros within a few minutes walk of our front door. You can choose from Thai, Italian, Greek and from any number of contemporary Australian restaurants and bistros.
Is breakfast served close by?
There are a number of local cafes and restaurants that serve a variety of breakfast dishes. They open from 6:00am.
Can we book tours to the rainforest and the reef with you?
All of our staff are experienced with all the tours that are on offer so it would be best for you to wait until you arrive so that we can discuss with the most appropriate options for your particular needs.
Is there public transport from Palm Cove to Cairns?
Yes, Sunbus provides hourly services into Cairns from AUD$10.20 for the round trip.
Is it possible to swim year round at Palm Cove?
We swim year round on the Great Barrier Reef. On mainland beaches such as Palm Cove, there are swimming enclosures which are deployed between the months of October and May each year. This is to provide protection from marine stingers, such as the box jellyfish, which migrate along tropical beach shorelines during our southern hemisphere summer. The swimming enclosure at Palm Cove is located almost directly opposite Alassio.
Do all tours pick up from Palm Cove?
All the tour companies pick up from our front door so any tour available in Tropical North Queensland is available from Alassio. Our experienced staff can help you with your tours when you arrive, advising which ones would be best suited to your circumstances.
